Compared with the high reflective coatings with the optical property of diffuse reflection, the coating has greater potential in alleviating the urban heat island effect. Firstly, the optical properties of the coatings, including solar reflectance and retro-reflectance, were studied. Secondly, retro-reflective coatings and high reflective coatings were applied on the outer surface of the model, respectively, the effect of two coatings on the thermal environment of regional buildings were studied by monitoring the regional albedos, wall temperatures and air temperatures. In addition, the influence of building forms on the thermal contribution of coatings and the thermal performance of coatings in different seasons were further studied.
