This method is opted in places with limited written records of past vernacular architecture and is designed to help the informants’ recollection process and verify the information shared. This study applies this method to residents from four different ethnic groups in Labuan Bajo, Indonesia, to understand the transformations experienced in their houses throughout their lifetimes as impacted by time, their ethnic identities, and their proximity to tourism activities. The findings range from the details of the houses’ transformation, from material to the layout and forms. The study also analyzed the memory system of the informants to understand the success and constraints behind the data collection.
