Waste bank is an alternative waste management system to reduce waste and improve the local economy. It can be implemented in developing countries where the local government has inadequate capability managing waste. This study has objective to investigate the roles of waste bank enhancing sustainable waste management in Indonesia. This study found that waste bank can encourage the number of waste reductions and benefit their participants in the form of economic value. The various social level did not have significant effect toward the environmental awareness as long as the communities consistent to participate in the activities to protect the environment. The addition of waste banks contributes in reducing emission and cost in waste disposal process to the landfill.
